Despite his success, late Friends actor Matthew Perry never received a Hollywood Walk of Fame star, but he may not be too far off the honor.
Matthew Perry won the hearts of global fans as the sarcastic but loveable Chandler Bing on Friends. While his co-stars Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox received their famous star years ago, the actor, who unexpectedly passed away on Saturday (October 28, 2023), never received his award. But Perry may be honored posthumously.

Matthew Perry’s Hollywood Walk of Fame award is down to his family
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which oversees the famous landmark, tells TMZ they have an interest in creating a star adorned with Perry’s name, but the ultimate decision will be up to his family.
The Friends actor, 54, was selected for a star one decade ago after being submitted by his PR firm. It was approved but a ceremony was not scheduled within five years, so the award expired.
As for the placement of Perry’s star, the Hollywood Chamber would be open to unveiling it in the same area as his female co-stars. They currently sit on Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street.
According to the Walk Of Fame website, posthumous awards require a two-year waiting period after death. But Matthew may be able to receive fast-track given his previous nomination.
Perry was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his home in Los Angeles last week. He was reportedly already deceased when first responders arrived. There was no indication of foul play, and no drugs were found at the scene.
On October 30, Perry’s Friends co-stars issued a joint statement mourning his death.
“We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just castmates,” they said, “We are a family.
“There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. In time, we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”

The process of receiving a star is more complicated than you think
Fancy receiving a star? You’ll need more than just fame and talent. Each recipient is required to pay $75K upon selection to cover the costs of creation, installation, and maintenance of the star.
Any person can be nominated for the award, including a fan. However, they must have an impressive list of professional achievements over at least five years.
The celebrity must guarantee that they will attend the ceremony, but this wouldn’t be in place for Matthew Perry’s case. A family member can accept it on his behalf, and they will be responsible for inviting 60 to 90 people. We can already see it as a Friends reunion.
It’s not the first time a star would be awarded after their death. Star War’s Carrie Fisher also saw her name on the walkway after she died. At the time, her daughter Billie Lourd attended the ceremony in her honor.
