Queen Elizabeth II is gone, but not forgotten by the monarchy. The long-reigning royal would have turned 98 on April 21, and to celebrate the occasion, King Charles and Queen Camilla honored her in a special way.
The pair took a trip up to the family's Balmoral Castle for a special church service on the grounds of Crathie Kirk. Charles and Camilla drove themselves to the location, with the Queen Consort waving to photographers from the passenger seat of their vehicle. Upon arriving, couple did not stop to have a chat with onlookers but did provide cheery smiles and waves to the members of the public.

Charles and Camilla appeared to go solo for the event, and weren't accompanied by any fellow royals according to photos. Kate Middleton, who is undergoing treatment for cancer, and Prince William were not present at the event. The outing, meanwhile, comes just three weeks after Charles and Camilla attended Easter Sunday service at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle on March 31 — the event marked the King's first major outing since revealing the news his own cancer diagnosis.
The church service fell Queen Elizabeth's 98th birthday — she passed away on Sept. 8, 2022 at 96 years old, making her the longest reigning monarch in the history of the British monarchy.
Charles' willingness to attend the church service, and getting behind the wheel to do so, provides a slight look into how he's handling cancer treatment. It's been reported that he's restless amid receiving cancer treatment, with his nephew Peter Phillips telling Sky News Australia last month “he’s hugely frustrated. He’s frustrated that he can’t get on and do everything that he wants to be able to do. But he is very pragmatic, [and] he understands that there’s a period of time that he really needs to focus on himself.”
