Come this fall, there’s going to be a new game in town … 10 of them, to be specific.
Bok Homa Casino is adding table games and dealers to its array of slots and other electronic gaming machines. There will be eight blackjack tables and one table each for Mississippi Stud and three-card poker games, said Sonny Johnson, vice president of casino operations for the Pearl River Resort.
The games are expected to begin on Oct. 1, he said, and no additional space will be needed in the 27,000-square-foot facility. All 800 or so slots and video machines will remain in the casino, too, he said.
“We are able to reconfigure the existing floor layout to accommodate the table games,” Johnson said. “Guests should have no problem locating their favorite slot machines. Our slot team has done an excellent job with the reconfiguration plan.”
The table games will add approximately 50 jobs at Bok Homa, which is hosting a dealer school job fair Thursday and Friday. Dealers earn a base salary of just under $15,000 a year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, but with tips and benefits, get a total of $32,000 to $58,000, with supervisors or pit managers earning in the range of $60,000.
Their addition will also increase gamers’ odds for winning more and bigger jackpots.
“We anticipate that both the Mississippi Stud and Three Card Poker will have a progressive link to Pearl River Resort,” Johnson said.
The addition of a hotel and more restaurants, along with alcohol service, have been rumored since the casino opened in 2010, but there are no plans for any of those at this time, Johnson said.
